The double-CD set is great for playing in the background when I'm doing hosehold chorese, or driving for day trips. The definitive collection of the Yeah Yeah Girl from France. I grew up with these songs on my parents' record player -- to find them on a CD that I can rip to my iPod is more than fabulously great. Clear recordings, great sound quality. I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it utterly to anyone.
If you are unfamiliar with Francoise Hardy, you might be uncertain whether to purchase this outstanding collection that includes some of her best music. Fifty songs, 50 incredibly distinct and lush arrangements. Don't resist. Every song on this double album transports you to a wonderful, special place that only Hardy's voice and sound can accomplish. Even if you don't speak or understand French, you will understand the emotions in these songs -- and you can always look up the lyrics and meanings to the songs later. :)
I had only heard one song by Francoise Hardy which was Oh Oh Cheri. I fell and love with it and bought this album hoping that I wouldn't be disappointed. I was and continue to be stunned by her. I love every inch of this album.
They fared a bit better with Raymond LaFevre and his great cover version of Soul Coaxing (Ame Caline).This CD is a must buy as a start to introduce this interesting facet of 60's pop music that possibly influenced Marc Bolin and other Radio Caroline listeners. Fantastic songs (especially disc 2) by the amazing Francoise Hardy.Her writing and voice are pure like snow and America only had the Kapprecords subsidiary "4 Corners" to market her music. They failed miserably at getting her to our attention. Get it. Audio quality is compressed but bearable.
This compilation is magnificent. It's even more indispensible since much of her pre-1967 material is presently in legal limbo due to a dispute between Hardy and her record company. Luckily this collection appears to be have been issued under a separate license than many of the currently unavailable french BMG Vogue reissues.
